Day 5 by DonDay 1-2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, Back Home
We are finished up there and about ready to go check out of the hotel and head off to Hue for the weekend before we return back and work at the ‘family house’...so this will be quick and short.  I delivered the laptop to our blind student and he was very grateful.  He has been walking around with a magnifier in his hand and never realized that the OS comes with Magnifier.exe.  All morning he has been trying to discover the computer in a way he has never done.

 
We also flew though about 50 pages of a reference manual on the CAD software.  I would learn a lesson, highlight the important things and hand it off to the interpreter who in turn would teach the class as I tried the next lesson and monitored the interpreter, making corrections at times for him.  I think we did about 7 lessons total, designing a spring and a vase for example.  They now know CAD and have a grasp on it.  We will finance a translator so that we can get the reference manual converted to Vietnamese.  There is no need for me here anymore.
I went though the going-away-thank-you ceremony with the CAD students.  The head master comes by and gives thanks to me and all the people that have made all this happen.  People that have never seen Vietnam, or even know the students here, yet have faith in what they can do with the resource we have given them now.  The students showed her all the work they had done.  She says that the students here will not be the benefactors, but the children that they will teach in the coming months will be the ones.  It has been a hard long week, but fulfilling.  It hasn't been a vacation tour as we have spent many hours, and the students had learned a lot, much more than I had expected.  In the beginning, I had my doubts that I would be able to get this all across to them, especially after the mating/align exercises.  But many of them had really eaten this up, spending their lunch hours, and even taking it home to their machines to practice at night.  One of the students with the large smile presents to me three nice water color pictures of Ho Chi Mihn market, Hoi An river front, and Lake Kiem in Hanoi.  It was a very nice touch as I have been to all three locations and also really do appreciate art from Vietnam (and anywhere).  I'll need to soon get a house with more walls!
Later we went out late down to the center of Da Nang and visited the market.  Unfortunately a lot of it was closed so will need to go back another day if we have any time.  We’ve been leaving the hotel about 7:30AM everyday and sometimes working until 7PM at night so any tourist activities are done after that. 

I think we have been very productive here.

Terry should be at this time boarding a plane to come.  His hotel just confirmed that he would be arriving tomorrow night about 11:30PM.  Sure wish I was there to see how he reacts to the first sights of Vietnam. 

We ate at a very nice restaurant, dropped Deanna off at the hotel and the three of us went to have our ice cream at a place that reminds you of the jungle cruise at Disneyland.   They place has a lot of plants and misters that give it a foggy appearance...very nice.   After that we walked the 20 minutes along the beach back to the hotel.   Linda and I talked about all of our races of course, as Robyn got a bit bored I believe.   Time to go to Hue!
